Branch AGM - 14th June 2022

Thursday 16 June 2022

Report from the AGM by Lawrence, our Secretary

Dear all,
As you will be aware, we held our AGM for 2022 at Paignton Conservative Club on Tuesday evening (14th June). I am pleased to advise that the minutes of the meeting are now available on our branch website by following this link

You may have to sign in with your CAMRA membership number and password to access this.

If you look at the minutes you will see there is an item under 13.which proposed that we formally adopt CAMRAs Code on Conduct 2021.
This covers four main areas of our branch operations, namely Personal Conduct, Policy, Communications and Declaration of Interest. This proposal has not arisen from any CAMRA HQ request, but it is felt that it will be good practice to adopt the Code on Conduct and canvas the general branch membership for views.
The world around us is changing and it is important that we show best practice and adherence to CAMRAs policies when acting as CAMRA members.
This is not designed to conflict with your activities outside CAMRA and its events but please take a look at the Code and let me have your views by the end of August 2022. You should be able to access it via this link

Committee

There were several committee changes at the AGM and your branch committee now consists of :
Bob Southwell - Branch chairman
Ian Packham -Vice chairman and Treasurer
Lawrence Stringer - Branch secretary and Social Secretary
Edgar Halton - Membership secretary
Alan Cooke -Whatpub , Website and social media coordinator
Phil (Billy) Kidd - Beer scoring and Pub Liaison officer.

Social Secretary

As I have taken over the role of Social Secretary I will be planning more social events and trips around our branch area. Unfortunately we no longer have access to a free minibus and costs of these have risen along with a lot of other things. The result of this is that the minibus trips will be fewer and there will be a charge but we will try and keep this to a minimum and cover parts of our branch area which aren’t accessible by public transport.

There will also be more events involving pub walks and the first of these is next Wednesday 22nd June. Details here

I’d like some ideas for trips and events from you all. The branch area is quite wide and I’m aware we may miss things unless we arrange them in advance. Ideally they should be accessible by Public Transport and suitable for people of average fitness. If not still let me know and I’’ll see what we can do. We will keep the midweek and some of the Saturday events but thse will depend on numbers attending to a certain extent.

Our next branch meeting on Tuesday 12th July will be a social in the newly reopened Crown and Sceptre in Petitor Rd, St Marychurch,Torquay. As most of you will know, this pub was a great favourite of the branch under its previous owners, and the new landlord aims to carry on the tradition. The meeting will start at 8pm but there will be no formal agenda as such. Please feel free to come along and see what the new Crown and Sceptre can offer.

Now on to some role vacancies. We have a vacancy for a publicity officer or Media Contact to handle our publicity matters. If anyone wishes to consider this role, please reply to this message and I will send you an information sheet.

We also have several vacancies for Brewery Liaison officers for the following breweries. Devil’s Pleasure, Teignmouth, Totnes and TQ Beerworks. The role involves liaising with the brewery and providing updates to the SW Region Brewery liaison co coordinator on a regular basis via an online system.

Finally, this message has covered a lot of things so to summarise, you have two new committee members in membership and social events. Please look at the Code on Conduct and let me have your views by 31st August. Please let me have ideas for trips and events we can organise and above all, keep supporting pubs and scoring beers on Whatpub.
Cheers for now,

Lawrence
