Campaign for Real Ale

Launch of 2022 Sunshine Pale Ale & Tour of Teign Valley

We all gathered for 11:30 outside Newton Abbot station to be met by Dave driving a nice new hired minibus, which soon became full. Our first call was the Teign House Inn at Christow where we found a hand pump with a Sunshine Pale Ale clip on it and Jonathan Crump the brewer at Black Tor, responsible for this year's Sunshine Pale Ale.
Chairman Bob officiated, pulling the first pint. Once everyone had tried a pint, it as agreed that, once again, Jonathan had produced an excellent brew! So good, in fact, that we stayed for 3 hours, somewhat longer than intended. Thanks must go to Ann Hood, the licensee, for her hospitality.

Our next stop was at the Bridford Inn where Jail Ale and South Hams Wild Blonde were competing with Black Sheep Bitter for bar space. As good as, I'm sure, the Jail and Wild Blonde were, I'm afraid they lost out to Black Sheep, a beer seldom tasted round here.

After another wiz round the narrow lanes of the Teign Valley we emerged unscathed at the Artichoke at Christow where. if my memory serves me right (which it often doesn't!), Sunshine Pale Ale was available to be enjoyed again.

After more narrow Devon lanes we emerged outside The Palk Arms at Hennock where the choices were Teignworthy Gun Dog, Bays Devon Dumpling and Dartmoor Legend. All were enjoyed while some of us admired the amazing view available from the restaurant. At this point a dog was let into the pub by someone who thought it was the pub dog. However the Landlord denied all knowledge of it, especially after it unloaded a steaming pile onto the carpet. There was then a short delay in serving beer while this was cleared up and the dog banned...........

Our last call was one that didn't appear on the itinerary, The Bishop Lacy at Chudleigh. This was due to the 'stardom' of Wendy Bishop the dynamic licensee who has raised over £100,000 for Cystic Fibrosis and was recognised on a recent edition of the BBC's One Show. Sadly the choice of beer was limited to Tribute. You can view Wendy on the One Show here

I won't mention the Committee member who was in a panic because he thought he'd left his rucksack in the Bishop Lacy only to find he was sitting on it! Best not mention it hey Lawrence....
