South West CAMRA Social - 29th October 2022
The event was held at the Beer Engine, Newton St. Cyres. an ideal venue. The pub is adjacent to Newton St. Cyres railway station which benefits from a regular service on the Exeter to Barnstaple line, albeit only every two hours and by request. The Beer Engine is a popular brew pub, offering up to 14 of its own ales.
There were at least seventy members there from branches in Cornwall, Plymouth, North Devon, South Devon, Somerset as well as from Exeter who organised the event. It was a productive day giving the opportunity to meet members from other south west branches.
An excellent, generous buffet was provided by the pub for a mere £8 a head. The quality and variety of the buffet was only exceeded by that of the beers on offer, at very reasonable prices.
Exeter took the opportunity to present the landlord with their 2022 Rural Pub of the Year Award. On the strength of just one visit it would seem to be a worthy winner.
All too soon it was time to depart, most members electing to catch the same train, so it was a bit of a squeeze on the small platform and then the train only opened one door.....
Our thanks to the Beer Engine and their staff and to Exeter & East Devon CAMRA for organising the event. We look forward to the next one in 2023.
