Campaign for Real Ale

August Mid Week Social

For the second time in three days it was breakfast in the Richard Hopkins, Newton Abbot. This time prior to a tour of the pubs of Newton Abbot. We all met up at the first pub, the Railway Brewhouse where we had a choice of Bass, Tribute, Jail Ale or Sharp's Solar Wave,a 4.6% hazy IPA, oh! and Doom Bar. A chance to take advantage of the generous 10% discount allowed to CAMRA members.
Our next stop was the Saracens Head, a busy pub with a juke box playing and a pleasant sunny garden for those wishing to miss the music. Timothy Taylor Landlord and Jail Ale were the options here, both in fine form.
Our next pub became a bit of a problem, many of Newton Abbot's pubs don't open until 3 or 4pm. So our next pub, was a bit of a walk and a new one to many. The Market House, there was one real ale available, Jail Ale, in good form.
The Jolly Farmer, across the road came next, again with just Jail Ale available. This is a sprawling maze of a pub where it's easy to get lost!
My final pub of the day was The Wolborough, it was now just after 4pm so it was open! Doom Bar and Proper Job were the choices here.
I'm sure the others went on to more pubs, but I had a train to catch and had to leave.
