Campaign for Real Ale

Midweek Social to Chagford

We met in the centre of Chagford after a very wet journey from different parts of out area. There were three from Exeter branch and even two from Huddersfield, Nigel and Carol, visiting Torbay for a few days.
We started in the Ring O'Bells where Dartmoor IPA and Jail Ale along with Otter Over the Bar were available. The Jail Ale pipes were being cleaned, so we were allowed some from the cellar, and very good it was!
Next was just down the road, The Globe Inn, built in 1833 and situated opposite the church. This time the choices were Dartmoor IPA and Jail Ale along with an Otter , this time Otter Bitter.
Next was almost next door, The Three Crowns, a St. Austell Brewery stone built, part-thatched 5-star inn. The lunchtime trade was busy and we were able to choose from the usual St Austell offerings, Tribute and Proper Job, plus the ubiquitous Dartmoor Jail Ale.
Our last pub in Chagford was appropriately named the Chagford Inn. At last a different beer to try, along with Otter Amber was English Ale (4.5%) from Tavistock Brewery. This seemed to be the popular choice here.
Time was getting on and the 3.20 bus was due, so the members returning to Exeter climbed aboard, no doubt to try a few more on arrival in Exeter.
An enjoyable day could only have been improved by a few different beers to sample.
