Sunshine Festival 'Thank You' Trip
26 of us set off by Tally Ho bus from Totnes Station for our trip in thanks for the sterling work at the last Sunshine Beer & Cider Festival back in July. Our first stop was Salcombe Brewery, who were the main sponsor of the event. We managed to arrive about half an hour early, what else could we do but have a beer while we waited. We were welcomed by Sam, the brewer, and Harry his assistant. The party was split into three groups for the brewery tours, so, while one group was being escorted round by Harry, the rest could do little else but have another beer! We finally left Salcombe at about 1.30 feeling very refreshed. We would like to thank Salcombe Brewery and particularly Sam, Harry and Dan for making us so welcome and for the generous 'refreshments'.
Dan will be running Salcombe's new venture, a brewery tap, which will actually be in Salcombe. We wish the brewery and Dan well with that and look forward to visiting.
Our next stop was at The Durant Arms in Ashprington, our Pub of the Year. It was now a lovely sunny afternoon and many took the opportunity to sit outside while enjoying the four beers on hand pulls: Bass, Copperhead, Teignworthy's Gun Dog and Mew Stone from Noss Beer Works. Ian, our vice chairman took the opportunity to present Alan with his Licensee pack for the 2025 Good Beer Guide, congratulations to all at the Durant.
We were expecting a buffet to help soak up the beers, so were pleasantly surprised when plates of chicken pie with chips and peas came out of the kitchen. Our thanks to Alan, Lesley & Simon for the hospitality, you never fail us!
Our last call of the day was the Copperhead Brewery Tap in Totnes where we could choose from a selection of their own beers. An ideal end to the day.
