South Devon

Mid Week Social to Kingskerswell

Barn Owl Kingskerswell has a surprising number of pubs spread out along the main Newton Rd and also in the back streets. So, one sunny November day we decided to take our various bus, car and train trips to meet at The Barn Owl in Aller Road for opening time at 12.00. The Barn Owl is a Hall and Woodhouse pub and somewhat rare in our part of South Devon. Fursty Ferret and Badger Best were the two ales on offer and both these were well received.
The Park Inn Suitably refreshed from our various journeys across South Devon , we then took a walk to The Park Inn , where the beer was in superb form and included Bass and London Pride. We spent some time here in the company of a few local customers, then off we went to walk to the Sloop on the main road . Here some of us had lunch as The Sloop had a special offer on. Unfortunately this also meant we weren’t all drinking real ale so a veil was quickly drawn over the proceedings.
Next we visited the Engine House that had Salcombe Gold in good condition and this was quickly followed by The Wighton, where Marstons Coors beers were freely available.
The Wighton The Sloop By this time The Lord Nelson had opened so we made our way back into Kingskerswell and up to The Nelson. Here the beers were in superb condition including the Naked Ladies (a beer from Twickenham brewery in case you were wondering). We stayed here for a while, then slowly we departed in ones and twos to catch the No 12 bus in either the Newton Abbot or Brixham directions.
Overall a very successful day with the November weather in our favour, a reasonable amount of exercise and a great selection of beers with the help of the No 12 bus.
