Salcombe & Kingsbridge Social

The omens were not good, we usually book a warm sunny day for our Mid Week Socials, however the 19th February was foggy and wet.. Despite the weather there was a reasonable gathering on the 164 bus as it left Kingsbridge for Salcombe.
Our first pub in Salcombe was the Fortesque where two of the three pumps were occupied by Landlord and Salcombe Gold. All the tables were occupied here, then it struck us it was half term and raining. We soon moved on.
Our next call was decidedly quieter with all the half term brigade in the large back bar. Life was quieter in the front bar of the King's Arms, perhaps the scaffolding was hiding it. There were three pumps here with Landlord, Salcombe Shingle Bay and Doom Bar on offer.
King's Arms & Victoria It was only a few yards across the road to the Victoria, a St Austell pub with three of the four pumps in use offering Tribute, Conversion and Proper Job.
The last pub in Salcombe was the Ferry Inn, a Palmers' pub, with the best view in town. Unsurprisingly there were three Palmers' beers on offer: Tally Ho, IPA and 200. The Tally Ho proved very popular if somewhat expensive.
We now made our back to the bus stop, on the way passing Salcombe Brewery's Bar & Brewery, unfortunately still under construction, one for next time!

We now returned to Kingsbridge and first of all the Hermitage, with Proper Job. Bays Devon Dumpling and Landlord (again!). Then across the road to the Seven Stars with Doom Bar, Bass and Landlord (again). I make that about four out of six pubs offering Timothy Taylor Landlord, not bad for a beer from Yorkshire! The group was starting disperse now with some having buses to catch or other pubs to visit, we had a last beer in the King of Prussia before catching our bus homeward.
Despite the weather and £6 a pint in most pubs in Salcombe we had an enjoyable day.
