Totnes Christmas walkabout
On a crisp but sunny Saturday 27th December some 20+ members from the South Devon and Exeter branches together with visitors from further afield met at the King William IV for the annual Totnes Christmas walkabout.
After sampling the Jail Ale, Legend and Proper Job on offer it was onwards and upwards to the Totnes Brewing Company where their own brews Citra and Barrel House Best Bitter went down well.
Then it was up to the Bay Horse Inn where we found Devon Dumpling, Bay Horse Bitter (Teignworthy), Hanlons Santa’s Hammer and the excellent South Hams Devon Porter.
It was then the long downhill decent to the Watermans where Black Sheep Blitzen and Jail Ale were enjoyed straight from the casks.
We regrouped in the Lord Nelson Inn where the London Pride was well received.
Time was getting on so at this point the group became split depending on the intended method of travel home, those catching a train went to the Albert Inn then Copperhead Ales Brewery & Taproom and those on the bus vice versa.
At Copperhead the full range was freshly tapped, most of which were sampled and the Chairman treated those present to the amazing Black Flamingo which was excellent as usual.
There was the usual warm welcome at the Albert Inn where Bridgetown Queen’s Speech was the highlight as well as Cheeky Blonde and Albert Ale, then landlord Giles duly obliged by putting on a pin of Shark Island Stout which finished the day very nicely.
All in all a very pleasant day out with fine company, nice weather and great beers on what is becoming an established event on the South Devon Camra calendar.
Here’s to 2026,
Cheers All,
