Ring of Bells, North Bovey

Tuesday 24 February 2026

The Ring of Bells, North Bovey burnt down ten years ago. The film is to celebrate ten years since the fire and eight years since it was restored to its former glory. The film was commissioned by the Landlord Richard Edelmann.
In the light of so many pubs closing this represents an important historical snapshot of a good outcome and success story. I believe it's also a great example of why pubs and their local communities are still such important elements of British life and culture. Since this film was first shown in the pub we've had major flooding in and around the village. One of the films participants Ray who is over 90, had a river flowing through his kitchen.
Due to the pub/village network 11 people showed up to dig a ditch around his cottage, pump out his kitchen and the pub gave him dinner and put him up for the night to let the house dry out. Proof if needed that a pub is the hub and life would be so different without them.
