Paignton Midweek Social

Some 18 members gathered at The Talk of the Town Wetherspoon at the start of another wet walkabout in Paignton. Whilst some enjoyed the hearty breakfast, JW Lees Game On seemed to be the favourite tipple there though some did venture to the Sharps Sea Fury so early in the day.
On the stroke of 12 we all moved across the road to Henry’s Bar where we were spoilt for choice with Jail Ale, Palmers Dorset Gold, The Rev James and Doom Bar in excellent condition.
We then took advantage of a break in the weather and walked to the harbour and St Austell’s Harbour Light. It was table service there and most opted for the Proper Job. We did question why the table service was necessary when the pub was quiet as we’d much prefer to be served at the bar, you had to go to the bar at the end to pay anyways, house rules apparently!
Next was the short walk over the road to the Harbour Inn & Rio Grande. Two Salcombe ales were on the bar, however the Shingle Bay had already run out and we quickly polished off the last of the Salcombe Gold, so after a team photo it was onwards and a longish walk to the Torbay Inn.
Another good selection there with St Austell Tribute, Sharps Sea Fury, Dartmoor Legend and IPA on offer.
A short walk followed and the Devonport Arms, a real locals pub with a huge main bar, only Doom bar available but in fine condition.
Back towards town now and the Upside Bar Co. with two Glastonbury ales, Arthur’s Ale and Red Beard, a great end to the day before we dispersed our various ways, in the main we were lucky to dodge the showers and a fine and varied selection of ales was enjoyed by all.
