Midweek Social to Shaldon

This being the first gathering since my taking on the additional role of Social Secretary, it was somewhat humbling to see some 42 thirsty members at the Shipwrights Arms for mid day, including some from Exeter and 7 first timers who were made most welcome. We were served by recent new landlords Elliot and Nancy and enjoyed the Firebrand West Coast and Bays Tall Order on offer.
The Shipwrights Arms Shipwrights Bar After an hour basking in the sunshine we made our way to the London Inn where we found Dartmoor Jail Ale, Timothy Taylor Landlord and Otter Bitter, not being fooled by the cunningly disguised Otter Fresh dummy hand pump.
The London Inn The London Inn Bar The size of our party was causing an issue getting served so we then filtered away in smaller groups to the Ness Hotel and Ferryboat Inn.
At the Ness we found Badger Tangle Foot and Fursty Ferret, both in excellent order, but some were not impressed it being a card only venue. The stunning elevated views over the estuary made up for this though.
The Ferryboat Inn offered Teignmouth Deckhand, Dartmoor Jail Ale and Firebrand West Coast which we enjoyed sat in the sun on the outside decking area.
With the party back together it was on to the Conservative Club who had kindly opened early for us. Wadsworth 6X, Teignworthy Reel Ale and St Austell Tribute went down well until the last ferry called and some of the group made their way to the Ship Inn and other Teignmouth pubs.
An excellent day with the largest group I can recall for a mid week social and it was particularly pleasing to meet the new members and our friends from the Exeter branch, here’s to next time.
